Fire Circle Coven is based in Portland, OR. We are an Eclectic Pagan Teaching Coven exploring personal growth through Experiential Witchcraft. Throughout the year we offer both open and closed educational classes & workshops alongside our Sabbat & Esbat rituals. The Sabbats are for coven members only. The Esbats are celebrated as an open public ritual Called Tune to the Moon. Click HERE for more information on Tune to the Moon.
Covenmate Openings: Fire Circle Coven currently has openings in its circle for new Covenmates. What is Experiential Witchcraft? Created and developed by Sophlili Achnil, Experiential Witchcraft is an eclectic blend of witchcraft, shamanism, the teachings of Jim Williams on living life from the context of Whole & Complete, wort cunning, energy work, and various healing modalities. Central to this tradition is the context of Whole & Complete. When we are living life from Whole & Complete, the overall experience is one of a continuous stream of magick and miracles. If the miraculous is not occurring on a daily basis for you, you have not yet learned how to create and wield your magick so that life shows up in all its majesty. One of the tenants of Experiential Witchcraft is The Crone's Rule of Three, which states: The results of any intention you set will most often be seen within three days. This applies to major life questions as well. When the Experiential Witchcraft practitioner asks for the answer to a question, the answer is revealed consistently within three days. Answers are clear. There is No Question or confusion. What Kind of Ritual Experiences Does Fire Circle Coven Offer?
We are an eclectic tradition, and as such our rituals will vary greatly depending on the intention set by the covenmate leading that ritual. Two of the values we hold dear are thinking for oneself, and following spiritual intuition. Because this is so, our rituals may be presented in any number of contexts. We are not a dogmatic coven. If you enjoy learning about various traditions and ways of being in partnership with Divine, this coven may be for you.
A Word About Linguistic Domains
The use of various terms borrowed from witchcraft.
What Subjects Are Taught? Wort-cunning Students will learn to identify, process, and use local plants for magickal and healing intentions. This information will be recorded by students in a personal Wort Cunning Journal. Students will record plant information and an image of the plant. Images may be hand drawn, printed photos, actual photos, or pressed, dried portions of each plant glued onto the page. Spellcraft In addition to Wort Cunning information, students will keep a Spell Book where they will both find, and create spells based on gathered plant materials. Students will record each spell and the results of that spell in their spell book. Guest Instructors will be brought in on a regular basis to cover subjects beyond my knowledge. Book of Shadows
Since every person's spiritual experience is different, Fire Circle Coven requires that each covenmate create their own BOS.
Historically, the practice of keeping a BOS began within the Wiccan Tradition and only one book was created for the entire coven to share. Also, traditionally, a BOS contained information about the tradition, as well as any spells, rituals, recipes, poems, Goddesses, Gods, etc. Fire Circle Coven members do not mix this information. Separate books are kept for each.

· Book of Spells
· Wort-cunning Journal

In the Experiential Witchcraft Tradition, coveners develop their own description of what Experiential Witchcraft means to them. The BOS in this tradition is the place where practitioners record this description. Nothing else.
This description will include an overview, correspondences, charts, tables, Goddesses, Gods, daily practices (as developed by each practitioner), and other general information about the path they are walking. While much information will be garnered by students from participation in coven rituals, workshops, classes, and one-on-one guidance meetings, ultimately their descriptions will vary greatly. We are not interested in turning out dogma saturated sheeple. This tradition is a gently guided free-range exploration of what spirituality means to YOU. Practitioners who walk their talk will notice that over time, meaning evolves along with the soul of the practitioner. The description will evolve too. This is a living, breathing tradition of Growth! We aim to thrive, not merely survive. We aim to grow, not remain stagnate. We challenge ourselves regularly to re-define ourselves and our spiritual practices. This is not to say that things "must" change - only that we remain open and vigilant in questioning what we do and why we do it. All information is to be recorded by hand. Use of an electronic version is not frowned upon, but may only be created as an adjunct to the hand-written version.
Some of the advantages to actually physically writing out your BOS is that the very act of writing creates a connection or bond between the writer and the book itself. Memory is also enhanced deeply when we write something by hand. Mental pictures are formed that can be called back in the mind's eye more readily. There is something comforting and nostalgic as well to reading notes in your own hand. Another fun part to writing it yourself is adding your own artwork and personal flourish to each page. Ritualcraft Every member will take their turn leading ritual from time to time. No exceptions. Students will not be guided what to create, and instead, how to think in order to create meaningful and powerful ritual. Students will learn Ritualcraft for personal use, as well as public presentation. Community Building Skills Fire Circle Coven provides guidance which results in producing community leaders. Students are encouraged to hive-off and start their own Experiential Witchcraft coven when they are ready. This is not required. It is however encouraged when the time is right. At the very least, practitioners will become stronger in their leadership skills and this will enhance their own life experience, as well as that of the people whose lives they touch in their respective larger communities. (Home, neighborhood, business circles, etc.)
Amulet, Talisman, & Toolcraft Students will be instructed in the art of creating their own amulets, talismans, and tools. Workshops will be offered at various points throughout the year. Working Tools - What We Use & Why We Use It This is not the typical overview. You will not find this information anywhere else. Not only is the information different, it is a whole different approach to looking at and working with them.
Partnership Skill Building Partnership is a core value in Experiential Witchcraft; partnership with everything in your environment and every part of your own sweet self.
Historical Ritual Practice An exploration of the myriad ways our ancestors have tapped in and connected to the Divine with-in and with-out. It is important to mention here that we do not teach duality, nor it's opposite. Chaos theory is best used to describe what is meant here. Chaos theory states:
Nothing is true, and everything is permissible. Everything is true, and everything is permissible.
